Gender Wellness of Los Angeles (GWLA) provides counseling for transgender people and their families coping with transsexualism, crossdressing, and/or sexual orientation issues.
We offer special sensitivity and awareness to transgender people with respect to:
- Transitioning in accord with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health criteria.
- Coping with crossdressing and how it affects one’s spouse or partner.
- Sexual orientation
- S.T.D. risk prevention
- Coping with H.I.V.
Casey Weitzman, M.A. from Gender Wellness of Los Angeles is sponsoring a monthly social event for the transgender community called “Girls Together”. It is a drug free, safe space where the T/G, T/S women and their female friends can hang out, maybe dress for the first time and make new or see old friends.
The event takes place at 4022 Fountain Avenue, Suite 2 (Writers at Work) Los Angeles, CA 90029 at its new time: 12:00-1:15 p.m. beginning, Sunday, July 20th, 2008. Our MtF support group is open to new members. The individual can be at any stage in their transition and not need to be living as female full time. This group is designed to be a place where participants can explore issues in a safe and caring environment. Issues that may be discussed include the following:
- Starting on hormones and how they will affect you
- Coming out to family and friends
- Providers who are sensitive to the T/G community
- Medical Considerations
- Dating and Sexuality
- How to come out at the work place
- What legal documents are needed to transition
- Healing painful memories/grief issues
